Steph and Nina’s Parisian adventure part 2: (Steph and Nina take on Bal des Pompiers- the firefighters’ ball): after waiting in line for 2+ hours on Rue du Vieux Colombier near St. Sulpice, we finally got near the entrance. By this point the line was more like a giant mob of people pushing forward- steph and I were both squished between gross guys, who I’m sure were a little too happy to be in that situation. All of a sudden, we felt the crowd moving forward quickly, people start yelling- I lost sight of steph and get shoved against a fence- my shirt gets caught on the edge of the fence and my arm gets scratched by the wire. Right ahead of me I see two guys in a fist fight. It was probably the most terrifying experience ever. The only image in my head was from a news report I saw a couple years ago about people getting trampled to death by masses of people in Mecca. By some miracle, steph and I ended up finding each other, and the fight stopped. Yeah, so that was our near death experience…
But not too long after that we got in. Was it worth nearly dying? Yes. Where else do you get to see firefighters dancing on bars and grinding up on random girls? Where else do you get to dance in a beautiful old firehouse courtyard with hundreds of drunk french teenagers in the middle of Paris?
P.S.- I didn’t take this photo but it’s a lot better than the one I did take :)
